Grease Duct Repair
Have you found yourself in a situation where your quick service restaurant has been orange tagged by a grease duct cleaning professional or sighted by local city or town officials for not being in compliance with federal and state fire codes? Are you at risk of being shut down due to commercial kitchen code violations?
Enhanced federal and state commercial kitchen laws mandate grease duct cleaning service professionals to report code violations and require local city or town officials to conduct routine kitchen inspections on a semi-annual, quarterly or monthly frequency depending on your kitchen cooking volume.
In the above picture you will notice a real-life example of a restaurant with a number of code violations along with an illegal vent configuration. Medford Wellington Service Company works with restaurant owners helping them correct the code violations that could potentially lead to property damage, fire or injury.  In the above example we helped this specific restaurant correct the following:
1. Â We replaced duct work that was leaking grease.
2. Â We corrected, repositioned and enhanced the ventilation system which was positioned too close to combustible material. In addition the ventilation system was not insulated with zero clearance high temp insulation as required by NFPA 96..
3. We repaired the improper welding on the duct work and made the welds in compliance with NFPA 96.
4. We replaced sections of duct work that were not 16 gauge steel. (An NFPA 96 requirement)
5. Â We rerouted the electrical power wiring placed on the duct work for the fan on the roof preventing a disastrous situation.
6. We prevented grease from continuing to leak on the wood framing which could have easily ignited at any time.
In addition to these services we also ensure that your exterior fan system is properly hinged, supplied with flexible weather proof electrical cable and service hold-open retainers as per NFPA 96 Code 8.1.1.1.
When your hoods are orange tagged by your hood cleaning company, call Medford Wellington Service to make your ventilation system safe and compliant with NFPA 96. We will send out one of our experienced service advisors to conduct a full inspection of all your equipment and provide you with a detailed report. As part of the inspection we will:
- Â Ensure that all exhaust ventilators are hinged properly.
-  Identify ductwork leaking grease.
- Â Identify any access doors that prevent the proper cleaning of ductwork.
- Â Ensure that your exhaust fan is UL listed for grease application UL 762.
- Â Ensure that all hinges Kit on Exhaust fan for proper cleaning.
