Keep your Chiller on line longer and Reduce Costly Cycles

VFD – Variable Frequency Drives

Medford Wellington Service offers a variety of variable frequency drives, or VFDs, that help balance a business’ cooling or heating requirements with the need for optimum energy efficiency. If your HVAC system needs less cooling or heating than the maximum load for which it was designed, VFDs allow that system to work at a lower speed. Because of this, the system uses less energy – double-digit percentage reduction in energy use is commonplace – and that results in lowered operating costs. We offer products that provide your business with comfortable, quiet and energy-efficient cooling and heating.

Our technologically advanced variable frequency drives are specifically designed for several types of HVAC components, including fan coil units, centrifugal chillers, pumps, cooling towers and air handling units. VFDs provide compressor motor speed control to ensure the most efficient part load operation possible, and can satisfy a range of installation requirements, including ambient temperature and space restrictions, and can detect surge conditions. They are also designed for simple retrofit, enabling your existing chillers to have variable-speed compressor operation.

Variable Frequency Drive Benefits

VFDs can improve the unloading capacity of an HVAC system as much as 50 percent below existing levels, so that the chiller remains on line longer and does not cycle, which can use a significant amount of energy. And because VFDs are fully compatible with existing building automation systems, users can incorporate all current energy saving routines.

Other benefits include:

  • Improvement of chiller application part load value by as much as 25 percent, saving substantial amounts of energy and money.
  • Increased profit margins due to money saved on energy.
  • Rapid return on investment.

Variable Frequency Drive Features

The technologically advanced nature of our variable frequency drives make them very user-friendly. Programmable digital inputs allow for easy control, and diagnostic features provide warnings for problems such as over-current, motor overload, output short circuit, under-voltage fault and external fault.

Other features include:

  • Available in a wide range of speeds
  • Adjustable switching frequency
  • Programmable relay output
  • Torque boost
  • Motor slip compensation
  • Adjustable output current limit
  • Wide range of display readings, including motor speed, frequency, voltage and current
